My name is Sohrab. I'm a designer, entrepreneur and filmmaker.
I was born in Tehran, studied film at University of California, Berkeley, and work in Los Angeles as an experience designer and storyteller.
I try to approach all my work with the dogged curiosity, radical empathy, and nimble persistence all in an effort to capture a solution that feels completely obvious in hindsight.
Currently, I am co-founder and head of product at Vyng, a venture-backed globally-focused social app working to transform how conversations start on mobile.
My films tend to deal with themes relating to identity, faith, and the synthesis of eastern and western values and culture. My documentary, The Jerusalem Syndrome, is a naively funny, meditative journey into the world's spiritual center as well as ground zero for the so-called clash of civilizations. Currently, I'm in post-production on a spiritually-themed VR project, The Source, which I filmed in Iceland.
Previously, I was head of design at inMarket, a leader in digital advertising for the physical world. Working with brands like Heineken, P&G and Coca-Cola, I helped create some of the first contextual mobile experiences at retail using BLE and beacon technology. This work inspired my SXSW panel: Meaningful Experiences in the Contextual Age.
In a past life, I was a Creative Director building websites, apps, and interactive experiences for entertainment companies like the NFL, and Fox, as well as brands like Acura, Nissan, Microsoft.
I spend my free-time traveling the world with my wife and baby daughters.
